ABOUT

Bethany Lacktorin is an interdisciplinary artist who creates participatory artistic experiences that help people see themselves, one another, and the places they inhabit with greater understanding and possibility. Working across rural west-central Minnesota and the Twin Cities, her practice brings together performance, music, public ritual, installation, and community collaboration to explore belonging, cultural memory, identity, and place.

A Korean adoptee raised in rural Minnesota, Lacktorin approaches each community first as a guest. Her work begins with noticing—listening for the histories, relationships, creative practices, and everyday rituals already present—and distills months of research, observation, and collaboration into shared experiences of discovery. Rather than presenting finished works, she composes participatory experiences through which communities become co-authors of their evolving cultural life.

Her work has been presented in theaters, gardens, libraries, schools, festivals, and public spaces throughout Minnesota and internationally. Whether creating immersive processions, artist residencies, contemporary rituals, or community-based performances, she creates opportunities for people across difference to make, learn, and imagine together.
